The Florida office of fantasy sports leagues developer FanDuel is to cut its workforce to just 19 people, having taken on twice that number of new faces last year.

The American firm took on 38 former employees of Zynga in 2015 following its expansion to a new Orlando premises.

Now 55 staff are in the line to be cut, with layoffs taking place on April 10th, according to the Orlando Business Journal.

Development workers will be those most heavily hit by the job losses, with customer support and talent team the two departments remaining in the office.

“As we plan for the future, we are building out our customer service operations in Florida and will continue to hire for select roles throughout the company,” FanDuel said in a canned statement.

“We did have a group of developers in the Orlando office that were focused on R&D for ancillary games and applications that we will not be investing in moving forward.

“We are helping the individuals in these roles find employment elsewhere and are grateful for the work they did at FanDuel."
