Tools firm IKinema has signed a licence agreement with Square Enix that will see the latter use IKinema’s flagship RunTime middleware.
RunTime allows studios to procedurally animate the entire bodies of both humanoid characters and fantastical creatures in a way that will allow models to react to the world around them.
It can be used in projects of all scales, from mobile to triple-A, and will now be used in Square Enix’s future games.
“IKinema’s skill in delivering realism and believability in procedural animation is particularly suited to game development,” said founder and CEO Alexandre Pechev.
“Square Enix is a significant addition to our portfolio and we're honoured they chose RunTime. We look forward to Square Enix becoming one of a growing number of top studios and publishers that recognize our technology gives both greater creative freedom to developers as well as a heightened sense of realism to players.”
