We Happy Few, still in Early Access, has had the rights acquired to turn it into a movie

Indie game We Happy Few in early stages of becoming a movie

Compulsion Games’ We Happy Few, still in Steam’s Early Access program on PC, is in the early stages of being turned into a movie.

This is coming from Gold Circle Entertainment, who helped produce Pitch Perfect, and has acquired the rights to alternate-history 1960’s survival game We Happy Few.

The demo of We Happy Few performed well at E3 2016, becoming the highest-rated game from Microsoft’s E3 press event after footage of the game went viral, and it seems someone in Hollywood was paying attention to the world the game shows: an alternative 1960’s where the government drugs its citizens to keep them happy and productive, and those that skip the medication are branded Downers, and viciously pursued.

Compulsion Games is partnering with dj2 Entertainment to make the movie. The game is still forthcoming, and will launch on the PC and Xbox One in the future.
