New outfit Yippee to focus on casual and social titles

Indie studio becomes BBC’s new neighbour

New casual games studio Yippee Entertainment has opened today to become the first video game developer to set up in the Manchester media hub, home to BBC’s new Salford home.

The independent developer said it had set up in the area, also known as MediaCityUK, as it is home to a growing media landscape of TV studios, SFX houses and movie companies.

The studio said its core business is casual and social digital entertainment on console, smart TV and mobiles.

Yippee has secured a deal with Macclesfield-based indie publisher Chillingo for a new mobile project.

The developer also added it is nearly ready to announce another partnership concerning smart TVs.

CEO Mike Delves, a former exec producer at Acclaim Manchester, and commercial director Lorraine Starr, head the studio.

“Yippee Entertainment is more than a games company, we are about making great ideas and properties live through interactive entertainment," said Starr.

“Either through games, transmedia or gameification projects, the aims are the same; to deliver exciting, immersive and totally engaging experiences that can be enjoyed across the board from iPad’s to web to smart TV’s.”

Delves added: “This is a very exciting time for Manchester and Salford and we are delighted to be part of it with Yippee Entertainment.

“The talent we have at Yippee has worked on some of the biggest titles in the world and we are proud to have found our home here amongst some of the world’s biggest media companies.”
