In-game footage from new trailer 'never dips below 60 FPS'

Infinity Ward ‘moving beyond old engine’ for MW3

Californian studio Infinity Ward has suggested it has not built a new engine for its upcoming blockbuster Modern Warfare 3, but the group says it has significantly upgraded its tech.

Infinity Ward community manager Robert Bowling said on his Twitter account that the firm has “moved beyond the Modern Warfare 2 engine and added a lot of cool stuff”, but stopped short of saying a new engine was in place.

The upgraded technology, and Infinity Ward’s use of it, is demonstrated in the trailer below.

Bowling claims all in-game content in the trailer “never dips below 60 frames per second”. He also suggested Modern Warfare 3 can go beyond 60 frames per second for other platforms such as PC.

Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2 was built on IW 4.0, a heavily modified engine that powered Treyarch’s Call Of Duty Black Ops and James Bond game Quantum of Solace.

Modern Warfare 3 is also being built at fellow Activision studio Sledgehammer Games, and it is rumoured Raven Software and new group Beachhead are involved in the project.
