What does the future of Call of Duty look like? Based on history, it’s pretty likely that there will be guns involved. It’s also likely that the games’ period settings will swing more wildly through time than the pendulum of a grandfather clock, but if Infinity Ward’s latest announcement is any indication, there could be some surprises in the series’ future. The studio has opened a new research and development satellite in Krakow, Poland. Why Krakow? Probably because the city’s name sounds like a gun.

The new team will work closely with the main Infinity Ward studio in LA, presumably on 2019’s iteration of the Call of Duty franchise, once Treyarch’s delivered its next baby. Infinity Ward Poland will be led by rendering engineer Michal Drobot, giving us at least a small indication of what the team might be up to. As for the studio title, Infinity Ward Poland seems as efficient as any other name. Not sure Niesko?czono?? Oddzia? would have had worldwide appeal.

Keep an eye on the new Infinity Ward Poland twitter account for more information, including potential job opportunities.

“We’re thrilled to announce the expansion of our development capabilities with the opening of Infinity Ward Poland,” said Dave Stohl, studio head for Infinity Ward. “We’re building a world-class R&D studio that will tap into the creative local game development culture and talent in Poland. This expansion will further solidify our position as one of the most dedicated and accomplished teams in the industry. We look forward to great things to come.”
