Creative England’s Jaspal Sohal has left the organisation to start his own development studio, Develop can reveal.

After three years as the organisation’s head of games, Sohal has launched games start-up PaperJam Entertainment and is already working on his first title.

Sohal has 15 years of experience in the digital market, having previously founded two companies that attracted clients such as Activision, EA and Ubisoft. While at Creative England, he oversaw investment in over 40 new studios and was instrumental in forming the firm’s game funding initiatives, which have seen £2.5m poured into games start-ups.

“We’re in that exciting start-up period where we know the game we want to make, we have the expertise in place and it’s just a matter of scoping it all out and executing successfully,” Sohal told Develop.

“I’m having lots of conversations with platform managers and co- collaborators, so depending on the specific minute of the day, I’m either absurdly excited or immensely anxious.

“We’ve got some work to do before we can announce the title, but it’s something I’m really looking forward to as soon as we’ve made some progress. We will be posting regular updates on our new Twitter account, @PaperJamGames, so please do follow us there for more details.”
