Women in Games Jobs’ goal of doubling the number of women in games in the UK and Europe by 2025 is ambitious but achievable, says the non-profit’s CEO Jenny Richards- Stewart.
The organisation plans to implement a series of initiatives in the coming weeks and months to support its aims, as announced last Friday. The first scheme it will be rolling out is a mentoring initiative which it will be piloting in the next six weeks, for which it has already signed up mentors who will work with young women already in the game industry and those aspiring to do so.
Richards-Stewart says one of the main barriers to women entering the game industry is the viability of the sector as a careers option.
“When we go out and meet young women once they learn about the opportunities the game industry can offer on terms of careers they are very enthusiastic,” she said.
“The battle is more about publicising the game industry as a career option rather than convincing women that it’s a fulfilling career option.”
Women in Games Jobs is already in discussions to collaborate with UKIE, TIGA and STEMNET as it works towards its "ambitious but achievable" goal, but wants to work with more interested parties, however they can help.

“In terms of support we are happy to accept any help that is offered, be it time, knowledge or funding. I should also add we already enjoy a great deal of support and assistance from many companies and organisations within the game industry and would like to thanks them for their support to date with their help we are confident we achieve our target.”
