Superweapon, the developer formed by former EA and Zynga workers, has been purchased by Kabam.
The Dawn of Steel mobile creator will be rolled into Kabam’s LA workforce, the free-to-play outlet said, joining a team working on two unannounced ‘triple-A’ mobile games.
Superweapon’s roster includes former Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth II, Command and Conquer and Red Alert 3 devs, spanning areas including production, art and programming.
Kabam’s acquisition of Superweapon follows its similar purchases of WonderHill, Exploding Barrel, Phoenix Age and TapZen and Magic Pixel Games since 2010, with the latter pairing forming the foundation of the current LA division.
“We are excited to join the talented team at Kabam Los Angeles and infuse our deep industry knowledge and passion for game making to the titles being developed at this studio,” said Superweapon president Amer Ajami in the announcement.
“In many ways, this feels like a homecoming as all of us at Superweapon have worked with many of the Kabam LA team in the past. Our shared experiences and team chemistry have enabled us to hit the ground running, and we can’t wait to show off the amazing massively multiplayer mobile games we’re working on.”
Kabam LA GM Amir Rahimi recalled: “We successfully integrated the Tapzen and Magic Pixel teams into one larger team, all while joining Kabam, so this should be relatively smooth and painless, meaning we can immediately focus on creating amazing next gen games.”
