King launches contest for development using its Defold engine

King launches development contest offering to send winners to GDC 2017

Mobile games giant King has launched a development competition for developers using its engine, with six winning teams being sent to show off their games at GDC 2017, gaining access to a shared booth at GDC and having their travel and accommodation paid for by King.

Developers can submit any game, as long as it was made in King’s Defold engine, although winners don’t have any obligation to promote the engine while at GDC 2017. "We would rather you talk about yourself and your game. That’s why you’re there; not to promote Defold." said King in a statement.

You don’t even need to have finished your game either. All submissions need to have at least two minutes of playtime, but King have claimed they’d prefer to see something small and awesome than a full game that is decidedly average. Developers maintain all rights to the title, and are not obliged to release it either.

The competition closes on January 22nd 2017, developers interested can see information on the contest on the Defold website,
