Leadwerks game engine heads to Steam

The Leadwerks game engine: Indie edition has arrived on Steam after successfully moving through Greenlight in 27 days.

The 3D game development platform features a new renderer built on OpenGL 4.0, as well as built-in level design tools based on constructive solid geometry, designed to make map design easier for amateur artists.

The engine also uses the Lua script language, and features documentation demonstrating how to build a 3D game.

Leadwerks uses a a royalty-free licence for making commercial products.

“I’m thrilled to be working with Valve and Linux”, said Leadwerks CEO Josh Klint.

“SteamOS is an industry-changing event and I’m excited that Leadwerks is at the forefront of that, so we can open the living room up to indie developers.”

In July last year, Leadwerks took to crowdfunding website Kickstarter to fund Leadwerks for Linux. The engine double its target and raised $42,358 from 787 backers.
