PEGI classification system extended to smartphone programmers and developers

Microsoft launches age rating for mobile

A new Pan-European Game Information age rating system has launched for Microsoft’s Windows Phone Platform.

Developed by PEGI, the programme provides developers with the ability to submit information about the content of their game, which then allows an age rating to be applied “in minutes”.

The PEGI age rating system adheres to the same guidelines for consoles and PC, to help parents decide what games are appropriate for their children.

“Given the fast growing popularity of mobile gaming amongst a younger age group, we felt that it was critical to apply those same rigorous standards to our Windows Phone devices as currently apply to Xbox and Games for Windows titles," said Chris Lewis, Microsoft Executive.
