Microsoft has assured Develop that Havok customers will see little to no impact from its recent acquisition of the leading physics middleware provider.

The Xbox firm made the surprise announcement that it had purchased Havok late last week. The company tells us that while the deal will enable Microsoft to combine its own tools – such as Visual Studio, Azure and DirectX12 – with the likes of Havok Physics, Cloth and FX, it will not affect Havok's upcoming products or its arrangements with established clients.

"It will be business as usual," a Microsoft spokesperson told Develop. "We brought Havok on board because of their industry-leading work in 3D physics, and to give developers the best tools. Together, we’re committed to delivering on this promise, while creating the best possible experiences for our fans.

"Developers see the same level of responsiveness, including the same support contract and the same SLA. We don’t expect any changes to current or previous Havok products, and developers should expect the same level of responsiveness and support they’ve always enjoyed.

"We’re focused on ensuring a smooth transition between teams, but look forward to sharing more in the future."

Microsoft added that there will be no changes to licence terms, and that Havok will continue to interact with developers as usual.
