Microsoft has sold more than 60 million licenses for its latest operating system Windows 8.
Speaking at CES, Windwos CMO Tami Reller said the number of licenses included upgrades and sales to original equipment manufacturers for new devices.
Reller added that sales of Windows 8 were following a similar trajectory to that of its predecessor Windows 7.
Microsoft also reported a “significant increase” in the number of Windows 8 certified systems available at the end of October, with more than 1,700 certified systems for Windows 8 and Windows RT.
In November, Microsoft revealed that it had sold 40 million Windows 8 licenses, meaning that in less than two months since the computing giant has shifted another 20 million licenses.
As well as reaching sales milestone, Reller also noted that since the opening of the Windows Store the number of apps on the Windows Store had quadrupled.
She also said that more than 100 million apps had been downloaded through the store – two months after general availability.
Windows 8 was released to the general public last year on October 26th.
