Warner Bros. blames 'fluctuating' market conditions for reduction in workforce

MMO developer Turbine lays off staff

US-based MMO developer Turbine has laid off a number of staff due to fluctuating market conditions, the studio has confirmed.

Turbine is Boston’s largest developer and employs over 400, but it is unknown exactly how many employees have been let go.

The MMO developer is best known for D&D Online and Lord of the Rings Online and recently hired a set of new executives.

"As part of the continual review of our business operations and fluctuating market conditions, we have had to make reductions in our Turbine workforce,” Warner Bros. spokeswoman Remi Sklar told the Boston Globe.

“The group continues to remain an integral part of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.”

News of the layoffs comes after a number of other companies such as Zynga closed its Boston office on the same day it laid off two-thirds of its Austin studio and German online game maker Bigpoint laid off 120 staff.
