Together the two firms now provide data for nearly 600,000 apps and have just under 270,000 registered users.

As well as purchasing one of its data rivals, App Annie has also raised $17m in funding from existing investors IDG Capital Partners, Greycroft and Sequoia Capital.

To date, the analytics company has raised $39 million.
