Xsens has announced a new education program that will enable academic institutes to better prepare students for the use of motion and performance capture in the realms of video games and films.

The firm has prepared a new bundle designed to “meet educational budgets” that includes its MWN Awinda capture system and a lifetime licence for MVN Studio Pro, as well as online web training and other support.

Xsens has even drawn up a recommended curriculum to demonstrate best practices when it comes to motion capture, all built around the same technology used by triple-A games studios and Hollywood filmmakers.

The portable nature of Xsens’ systems means there’s no need to turn entire rooms into motion capture studios. Instead, they only need a wi-fi connection, enabling them to teach mo-cap wherever.

The program will begin by rolling out in the US, with more territories to follow. Xsens is already working with Belmont University, Capilano University, Chapman University, Chico State, College of the Canyons and Middlebury College on the motion capture curriculum.

“After speaking with schools, we heard that creating a mocap training program was daunting,” said Xsens product manager Hein Beute. “They needed a comprehensive package that eliminated the guesswork and cut the cost. They get both with the Xsens Education Program.”
