Copyright infringement by users on mod creation platform ManiaPlanet is “not of great concern” to developer Nadeo, its creative director has said.
When asked by Spong whether there were any possible legal implications to users selling mods featuring copyrighted material, Florent Caselnerac said that the studio was unlikely to be held responsible.
A showcase of the mod platform allegedly shows copyrighted material and logos featured on user generated levels and downloadable content.
He did however say that data could be banned in extreme circumstances, but that it wanted the platform to be “as neutral as possible”
ManiaPlanet allows users to access the source code of Nadeo games TrackMania and its upcoming ShootMania to create mods, which can then by sold for virtual currency.
Created content is then hosted on third-party servers that are not affiliated with the developer.
