Indie hands over Scrolls trademark and is allowed to keep name for upcoming title

Mojang settles legal dispute with Bethesda

Mojang Specifications has settled its dispute with Bethesda over the use of the name Scrolls for its latest game.

The lawsuit began last August after studio head Marcus Persson received a cease and desist order from the publisher, which claims Mojang’s upcoming title Scrolls infringed on The Elder Scrolls trademark.

After obtaining an interim injunction against the order in October, the two developers have now agreed a settlement to bring an end to the case.

Mojang will now give Bethesda the Scrolls trademark, but will get to keep the name for its own title, as long as it does not make an Elder Scrolls competitor with it.
