Moshi Monsters developer Mind Candy has signed a deal with Sony Music to release records for its popular children’s franchise, it has announced.
The partnership will see Sony handle UK distribution of all music releases from the UK company’s own record label, Moshi Monsters Music.
The first album to be released will be the album ‘Music Rox’, which will feature 12 tracks from Moshi characters such as The MonStars, Dr Strangeglove and Popstar Poppet. It is slated for release on April 2nd.
Moshi Monsters Music is being led by former McFly producer Jason Perry, who recently joined Mind Candy as head of music.
“Sony Music is one of the biggest names in the industry and working with them shows our commitment to providing our fans with a top quality music experience," said Perry.
“We set out to produce a great quality, edgy and fun album that both parents and children can enjoy and we hope our millions of fans enjoy the outcome.”
Sony Music executive VP Nicola Tuer added: “We are thrilled to be teaming up with Mind Candy and the phenomenal Moshi brand, one of the most exciting children’s brands in the world today. We feel it’s a great fit for Sony Music.
“The Moshi Music project is a fantastic way to engage young people with music. We’re very excited about the opportunities we can bring to the partnership.”
The partnership is the latest branch away from gaming for the Moshi Monsters franchise since its 2008 release as a game, which now has more than 60 million users.
The franchise has also expanded into areas such as toys, books, trading cards and the new Moshi Magazine.
