NCSoft ramps up western operations

NCSoft plans to significantly ramp up its operations in the western market with an expansion in to mobile gaming.

The publisher is now increasing its investment in NCSoft West. As part of these plans, it has opened a new mobile studio in San Mateo, USA, which it plans to grow significantly over the next year. The developer will work on titles that are based on a mix of new and existing IP.

The publisher currently has 75 vacancies across its western studios.

NCSoft West has also enacted a shake up of the executive team. Recent hires include senior VP of publishing and business services John Burns, senior VP of mobile Jesse Taylor, senior VP of corporate development Michael Chang, NCSoft West Mobile GM Darren Chencinski and VP of commerce Jeff Pabst.

As well as these changes, the publisher is now bringing fantasy MMO Blade & Soul (pictured) to the west in the winter and has made subscription MMO WildStar free-to-play.

“Over the last several months, we’ve begun to lay the groundwork to increase NCSOFT West’s investment and prominence in the West,” said NCSoft West CEO Songyee Yoon.

“Now, with our full executive team in place, new mobile studio open in San Mateo and a number of other key initiatives underway, we have a strategy that will drive our acceleration and position the company as a key leader in the Western games industry.”
