Greenshoots-backed developer releases Official England Football game for mobile and tablet

New mobile game studio Team Football forms in Birmingham

A new game studio founded by ex-Sensible Software artist Steven Huckle has been formed in Birmingham.

Called Team Football, the developer is part of the incubator scheme at the Birmingham Science Park, which supports a number of start-ups.

The team of four, which includes Sensible Soccer artist Steven Huckle and graduates Alex Young and Jossiah Taylor, has also received backing from Microsoft and Creative England’s Greenshoots initiative, which has provided £25,000 funding for the developer.

Its first game is Official England Football for mobile and tablet and tablets, which launches today. The developer has also partenred with Brazil, Japan, China and France to provide the official game for each country. The game also includes commentary from the famous football commentator John Motson.

Team Football is also working on another mobile title for release later in the summer, quiz game Going for Goal.

"To have signed the mobile and tablet rights to so many countries across the world is huge for a start-up company," said creative director Steven Huckle.

"Within a few weeks of forming the company we found ourselves pitching to Creative England and Microsoft for funding. Fortunately they bought into our vision, which enabled us to go on to accomplish so much in a relatively short space of time – which would have been close to impossible to achieve without this support."
