Future trends, training and talent acquisition are the biggest priority areas for the UK game industry, according to a new survey.
Creative Skillset, has published the results from its pilot survey, which was designed to determine topics most relevant to the games, film and TV sectors for use in future research and surveys.
The survey included 534 participants from all creative sectors.
Developers highlighted the most important topics affecting them as training and talent acquisition, followed closely by investment needs. These priorities closely followed the trends for other sectors, except for apprenticeships, which ranked lowest in terms of priority despite being noticed as more important by other sectors.
The issue of diversity was rated as more relevant to the game industry than in all other sectors. with the need to attract more diverse new entrants and the business benefits of doing so considered most important.
On the subject of future trends, the most significant sub-topics were the future needs of a business, the future of technology and consumer trends. The state of technology over the next few years was voted as vastly more critical in the game industry than the film, TV and interactive media sectors.
Workforce trends and benchmarking and comparative analyses were seen as the least relevant topics for the industry.
Much like other sectors, on the issue of talent acquisition, recruitment, staff retention and career progression/development were rated as the most key subjects to look into.
Funding for training and the types of/future training needs were rated as the most important sub-topics within the area of training, with “ticked” courses (accredited programs) seen as more important by game industry panellists than all other creative industries.
The game industry was not represented in results about apprenticeships, as it did not receive enough ratings from panel members as an important topic.
