The legal dispute between Destiny dev Bungie and former employee Marty O’Donnell has been settled, with the latter winning a $95,000 settlement.
The dispute began last year after O’Donnell was dismissed after ten years working at the studio, composing the music for the best-selling Halo series. O’Donnell claimed he was fired “without cause” and pursued legal action.
Now a Superior Court judge in Seattle has approved a settlement in the case, whereby Bungie’s chief executive Harold Ryan will pay O’Donnell more than $95,000 to settle legal claims, according to VentureBeat.
$38,385 will cover unpaid work and vacation time, while another $38,385 will serve as double damages. Adding in attorney’s fees and interest, the total comes to $95,019.13 to be paid to O’Donnell.
The Halo composer previously won another legal dispute with his former employees, with a US court ruling that Bungie had to return his founders’ stock in the studio back in August 2014.
Earlier this year, O’Donnell formed a new company – Highwire Games – with a former Bungie designer and the co-founder of closed dev Airtight Games.
