The experimental cloud game streaming service OnLive will eventually be available on smartphones such as Apple’s iPhone.
“Today, at a Wedbush financial conference in New York I showed OnLive running simultaneously on 2 iPhones, a TV, and a computer,” said company founder and CEO Steve Perlman (pictured).
Writing a blog post on the official OnLive website, Pearlman suggested that the iPhone edition of OnLive would get “the full OnLive Game Service”, where users can play games, watch other playthroughs and communicate through game profiles.
However, Pearlman revealed that the cellphone versions of OnLive are still very much in the early production phase. They will need extensive development and have no release date.
It remains unknown is how well OnLive performs on wireless cellphones, yet the jury is still out on the performance of the ‘native’ edition of OnLive for TVs, PCs and Macs.
“It’s important to understand that a cell phone is a very different beast than TV, PC or Mac,” warned Pearlman.
“And while we’re thrilled about eventually bringing many new games to cell phone platforms, currently, games on OnLive are tuned for TVs and computers.
“So initially, it’s the Community and Social elements of OnLive that we’re most excited about on mobile devices.
“We have further development to do and we need approvals from some cell phone makers before we can release OnLive to the public.”
OnLive is set for release in the US before the end of the year.
