People Can Fly opens two new studios to work with Square Enix on triple-A shooter - MCV
People Can Fly opened a studio in Newcastle and wants to grow its team to “20-30 developers within the next 12-18 months”

Warsaw-based developer People Can Fly has announced it has opened a new studio in the UK, in Newcastle, as well as a second office in Poland, in Rzeszów.

The Newcastle studio actually opened in September 2017, the Painkiller and Bulletstorm developer said in its announcement, and comprises “former Ubisoft staff and veteran developers.” Meanwhile, the Rzeszów studio just opened, with 30 members of staff who previously worked on the development of the Sniper: Ghost Warrior franchise.

Alongside People Can Fly’s HQ in Warsaw, the new studios are currently working on the development of a triple-A shooter with Square Enix. There are no more details on the project (which was initially announced in June 2017), except that it’s a new IP developed on Unreal Engine 4. The developer is currently hiring in all locations, including a dozen positions in the Newcastle office. You can find more details on People Can Fly’s website.

People Can Fly launched in 2002 and was briefly acquired by Epic Games from 2012 to 2015 – a time during which it was rebranded Epic Games Poland and helped on the development of Fortnite. It took its independence again in June 2015 and went back to using its original logo and name.

CEO Sebastian Wojciechowski commented: “Since People Can Fly became an independent studio again, our ambition has been to build a team of talented and experienced developers that can develop the best triple-A games. We decided in 2017 to open a new studio in Newcastle to attract not only local talent, but also to attract the best developers within the UK. We want this team to grow to 20-30 developers within the next 12-18 months.

"When CI Games decided to restructure its operations, we immediately decided to open a new studio in Rzeszów to allow those great developers to keep on working together as a team, and to contribute to the game we’re working on. Our intention is to give both new studios, in Newcastle and in Rzeszów, the opportunity to work on features or part of the game independently from the Warsaw team.”
