Running With Scissors has taken umbrage with Google Play’s rejection of a mobile version of Postal, the 1997 title based on mass murders.
The developer says Google turned down the game due to “gratuitous violence”, but points to other violent games on its marketplace, Eurogamer reports.
“It seems we have hit a bit of a snag,” the studio wrote on its official forum. “Unfortunately it appears postal has been rejected from Google Play due to it containing ‘gratuitous violence’. Sadly this means it won’t be welcomed alongside the Grand Theft Auto series, Carmageddon and horde of zombie games on Google Play.”
Running With Scissors told Eurogamer it immediately filed an appeal, which was also rejected, although it is still trying to get in touch with Google representatives. The studio is also looking into the possibility of releasing Postal via Humble Store, Amazon and other Android app stores in order to work around Google Play’s rejection.
Last month, Google Play revamped its age ratings system, introducing the PEGI ratings used for retail games.
