Scotlandâ??s promising APB developer wins Hottest Prospect award at Tech Media Invest

Realtime Worlds named as UK rising star

Crackdown developer Realtime Worlds has been named as the UK’s hottest prospect in the digital sector.

The promising development studio – based in the Scottish city of Dundee – was awarded the Hottest Prospect prize during the Tech Media Invest awards, which took place on Sunday in London’s Emirates stadium.

The studio – founded by industry veteran Dave Jones (pictured) – has enjoyed widespread acclaim for the milestones it has already passed in the space of seven years. Its debut title Crackdown has built a devoted fan base since its 2007 release.

"Realtime Worlds impressed with the innovative technology behind their games, the quality and vision of their management team and the sheer energy and enthusiasm of their wider employees,” said one of the event’s judging panel.

“Video gaming is a fast growing $42bn worldwide industry which spans many platforms. The structural shift to digital makes this industry even more exciting and filled with opportunity for great companies such as RTW.”

Realtime World’s growing acclaim could be a further reminder that the UK government needs to act quickly to hold on to some of its most lucrative businesses.

The game developer very recently threatened to move its offices to Ireland unless game tax breaks arrive in the UK.

Realtime Worlds CEO Gary Dale said he was delighted to pick up the prize.

“This is an exciting period for the company as we head towards the launch of APB next year,” he said. “We are thrilled that the judges appreciated the potential for the company and our people and share our corporate vision, ambition and our enthusiasm for APB."

The Tech Media Invest award ceremony had showcased over 50 presentations from young and fast growing companies. Realtime Worlds was up against promising ventures such as Adjug, Comufy, Huddle, and Slicethepie.
