Rise of the Tomb Raider has been crowned as the finest-written game of last year, according to the Writers Guild of America.

The Xbox One exclusive, which subsequently came to PC this year, walked away with the award for ‘Outstanding Achievement in Video Game Writing’ from the 2016 Writers Guild Awards. A PS4 release is planned for later this year.

The game, which is a direct sequel to the 2013 reboot of the franchise, was penned bylead writer Rhianna Pratchett, who also scripted its predecessor.

Pratchett was helped by additional writer Philip Gelatt, while John Stafford and Cameron Suey served as narrative designers.

Other nominees in the category included throwback RPG Pillars of Eternity, stealth-action sequel Assassin’s Creed Syndicate and fantasy RPG The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
