Psyonix’s hit car football game Rocket League has surpassed five million downloads in just over 20 days.

The game was released on July 7th for PC and PS4. Though the title costs £14.99 on Steam, it is currently available for free to PS Plus subscribers.

Steam Spy estimates that the number of Steam owners is just over 524,000, suggesting the majority of downloads has occurred on the PS4.

Speaking to Polygon, Psyonix VP Jeremy Dunham said Rocket League has more than doubled lifetime sales of its predecessor Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars.

"In comparison to the original Battle-Cars, Rocket League has had more than double the lifetime downloads in its first three weeks," he said.

"It's a much stronger response than we ever imagined, and the studio is ecstatic about it."
