We’ve all been wondering what Take Two Interactive will be up to this Christmas with WWE2K and NBA2K seemingly the only games on the horizon following the delay to Rockstar Games’ Red Dead Redemption 2 earlier this year. Well, it seems Rockstar had a trick up their sleeve.
LA Noire, the 1940s detective game set in Los Angeles, was originally released by Rockstar Games and Team Bondi in May 2011, following a troubled development. The game was one of the first to use MotionScan, a technology made by Depth Analysis that recorded an actors face with 32 surrounding cameras, allowing for emotive and responsive facial expressions in game.
Well, it’s coming back. Coming in November this year, LA Noire will have a PS4 and Xbox One remaster. The game will also be released on Nintendo Switch, with gyroscopic ‘gesture-based’ controls and touch screen support.
The game is also being released for HTC Vive with a special recreation of seven selected cases from the 2011 release. LA Noire:The VR Case Files release has been rebuilt specifically for VR and is the first foray into the medium by the Grand Theft Auto developer. Players will be able to use the HTC Vive’s touch controllers to manipulate objects in-game, use the in-game notebook to make notes or draw pictures, and will also be able to interact with vehicles, including steering, opening doors and shooting from the cars.
There’s no news yet on any other VR platform and there is information about the game’s new VR edition on the Vive website. There’s no suggestion of an exclusive partnership or release but it certainly seems as if HTC Vive has aided development or has agreed to some promotional exclusivity at least.
Other improvements to the game include being optimised for PS4 Pro and Xbox One X with a native 4K resolution, however, no word has been made on the frame rate of these modes.
