Studio to focus on MMOs and "IP beyond the Angry Birds universe"

Rovio opens new London studio

Rovio have announced they’re opening a new in-house studio, their fifth, in London. The studio will be focussing on massively multiplayer online games.

In a blog post on Rovio’s site, it’s claimed that the company’s newest venture will be focussing on "new IP beyond the Angry Birds universe"

This is the first studio Rovio have built outside of mainland Europe, and Rovio have said that over the next two years, Rovio London will be looking to bring together a team "of some twenty members" to make this happen.

“We believe that the best game experiences are those that you share with other people,” said Mark Sorrell, head of studio, in a statement delivered via the blog post “So we’re starting a studio to do exactly this. We look forward to bringing a diverse team together to deliver unique MMOs that are creative, inclusive and delightful.”

"Our business is profitably growing and London is the most logical place for us to found a new studio that will complement our overall global mix of internal and external developers. London is also a fantastically diverse talent magnet.” added Antti Viitanen, SVP of studios.
