Angry Birds studio said to be targeting 100 staff mark in near future

Rovio seeking expansion

Rovio, the Finnish casual games developer behind hit game Angry Birds, is said to be seeking a massive expansion of staff numbers.

According to Finnish newspaper Helsingin Sanomat, the studio is looking to hire 14 new staff immediately, and has forecast a studio headcount of over 100 from the current 31 in the near future.

The article also states that Rovio’s turnover in 2009 was €1.6m, which is on course to be significantly improved upon in 2010. It also states that net sales for the firm in 2011 are anticipated to exceed €10m.

On the subject of the recent sale of Angry Birds publisher Chillingo to EA, a Rovio spokesperson categorically outlines the company position on the future of the company and it’s IP.

"We have not sold out. We have not sold to EA. We are Rovio. We own Angry Birds,” they said.
