News has emerged that Scottish games developer Stewart Hogarth has sadly passed away.

Gamasutra reports that Stewart was fighting congenital heart disease right up until Tuesday, September 15th. He was just 34 years old.

Stewart was known to much of the Scottish games community, having worked at firms such as Denki and Chunk. He branched out as a freelance and independent games developer in 2011.

In 2013, he founded Smiling Bag Games and made a series of games independently, including I Am Level and Tile Temple Tactics. He also regularly took part in local games jams.

He also worked on games for leading brands such as Sky, BBC, Cadbury’s, Cartoon Network, Dreamworks and Nickelodeon.

You can find his full gameography over at Smiling Bag’s website.

Scottish dev Dan Gallagher told Gamasutra: “Everything from working with him to playing his games was always a pleasure and a learning opportunity. Even with all his problems he was always smiling and always chirpy.

"There would be a lot more great games in the world if more developers created with the integrity and passion that Stew had.”
