SDKBox splits from Cocos parent Chukong, adds Unity and Unreal support

2.0 update of game operations platform release, featuring cloud-based configuration, IAP receipt verification and live ops controls

Chukong has spun its game operations platform SDKBox off into a standalone company.

The firm, which is also the creator of open-source mobile engine Cocos2d-x, announced that the newly-created business would be led by Kai Zhao as head of operations.

Alongside the split, SDKBox has released its latest 2.0 update.

The major revision adds support for Unity and Unreal Engine, as well as capabilities such as receipt verification for in-app purchases, on-the-fly in-game store catalog management, live ops controls and cloud-based game configuration management.

The news follows the recent approval of SDKBox’s IAP controller for sale in the Unity Asset Store. SDKBox’s 2.0 update features IAP controllers for both Unity and Unreal.

SDKBox was originally added to Cocos2d-x back in July 2015. Chukong claimed that more than 4,500 games have utilised the platform since.

“Spinning off SDKBOX was the next logical step for scaling the business within the games industry," said Chukong CEO Haozhi Chen.

“This move provides more autonomy for SDKBox to support additional engines and grow market share in the live operations technology market for games.

“Additionally, the new company will have dedicated financial and strategic support from Chukong, and we’re looking forward to the future growth of this sector for our overall business.”

Kai Zhao, who will serve as head of operations for SDKBox, added: “With the spin off of SDKBox as a standalone entity, we’ll be better positioned to focus resources and provide the widening spectrum of services that developers need to be competitive in the market.”
