Ukie’s Digital Schoolhouse, powered by PlayStation, has announced that two new partners are joining the scheme, at an event held at Ukie’s London offices earlier this week.
Warwickshire County Council and Sega are the latest to join the programme, which uses play-based learning to get school children and their teachers into computing and coding. The programme started on September 1st, 2014 and helps support the computing curriculum that schools are required to teach. Representatives from Gfinity, the Department of Education and Department for Digital Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) joined PlayStation and Computing at School also attended the event
During the event, named Back 2 School, a panel was also held to discuss how creative industries and education could work together to address the current skills gap in the digital industries in the UK. Pupils at Key Stage 3 also took to the stage to talk about their views on the issue.
“Children aren’t being challenged or stimulated enough with the curriculum. This needs to change,” said joint managing director at Warwickshire County Council, Monica Fogarty, during the panel.
"Working together is key," added Sega’s head of PR, Peter Oliver. "More games sectors should lend expertise to education through DSH to help bridge skills gap."
