Former FunPlus exec joins publisher as VP of Product

Sega hires Joseph Kim to lead Western mobile push

Sega has announced the appointment of Joseph Kim to its mobile division, specifically with a focus on Western markets.

Taking on the role of vice president of product, he will be responsible for helping Sega improve its mobile presence and success int he West, drawing on years of experience on past mobile titles.

Sega is currently concentrating on its mobile business rather than console, and has even acquired new mobile studios such as Demiurge to help with this.

Kim joins from FunPlus, where he served as studio head in the strategy division and external general manager of the Vancouver office. Throughout his career he has worked on a number of successful mobile titles such as RenRen’s NBA Rush and Gamevil’s Fantasy Quest. He has also served as a consultant for Ninja Theory, Smilegate and more.

"In mobile gaming, the best is yet to come,” said Kim. “I look forward to working with the teams at Sega to help deliver awesome game experiences to existing and future Sega customers."

Kim’s rich background in successfully bringing games to market along with his experience in consulting and analytics makes him the best candidate for the job, and we look forward to seeing him work his magic.”
