A new rendering engine for next generation systems has been teased by Silicon Studio, the Japanese firm whose lighting technology is powering the likes of Final Fantasy XV and Valhalla Knights 3.
Introduced in a short tech demo, the video (see below) is beautifully animated and hints at some of the cutting-edge technical feats, such as depth of field and the realistic casting of shadows and reflections, that its new rendering technology may be capable of.
Simply labelled as ‘New Rendering Engine’ for now, the middleware maker is shooting for an astonishing level of detail, as seen when a diminutive orange robot interacts with an aging leather-trimmed camera.
Silicon is perhaps best known for creating the Yebis post-processing technology, which is currently powering titles from Square Enix and Ubisoft.
The studio is also hiring for projects.
Aside from middleware tools, Silicon has also created a game in the form of the 3DS RPG Bravely Default. A sequel titled Bravely Secondly is on the way, though no details have been announced as yet.
