VR First, the educational initiative set up by Crytek to advocate virtual reality development training, has almost doubled its number of participating universities.

Six new institutions – the UK’s University College London and Manchester Metropolitan University, the University of Canterbury in New Zealand, Finland’s Kajaani University of Applied Sciences , Oklahoma University in the US and Estonia’s Tallinn Technical University – bring the total number of campuses to 14.

The programme launched in January, aiming to foster a wider understanding of virtual reality development by establishing dedicated VR labs within the universities.

This expansion marks the first time any of those four countries have hosted a VR First lab.

The labs include access to Crytek’s CryEngine tools and VR hardware such as headsets.
