Square Enix Collective have announced a partnership with developer Cardboard Utopia that'll see them publishing the developers forthcoming title Children of Zodiarcs, a dice and deck based RPG that's heavily inspired by Square's RPGs released for the original PlayStation.
Children of Zodiarcs had a successful Kickstarter in January 2016 that saw them raise $259,593 Canadian dollars on a CA$50,000 goal. It'll now be launching in 2017, with Square Enix assisting with a lot of the details around the launch, including the marketing.
Phil Elliot, Square Enix London's director of community and indie development, has said that "The addition of the wonderful Children of Zodiarcs to Square Enix Collective is a huge boost to our campaign of delivering a fantastic line-up of varied and quality titles to gamers through 2017 and beyond. We’re proud the highly experienced team from Cardboard Utopia chose to partner with Square Enix Collective."
“What we're creating at Cardboard Utopia is a game crafted with love and care to recapture the spirit of the Tactical RPGs of our youth; the same kind of games Square Enix has been publishing for decades”, said Jason Kim, Cardboard Utopia's creative director. “For us, we could not have found a more fitting partner than Square Enix Collective to help us bring Children of Zodiarcs to market”.
The game will be playable at PAX East in Boston next week, and launching later this year.
