Studio Gobo opens new mobile branch in Brighton

UK developer Studio Gobo is expanding with the opening of a new office dedicated to mobile development.

The new studio is based near to Gobo’s Brighton headquarters and hopes to build on the success to company has seen in the toys-to-life sector. Studio Gobo is best known for some of the most popular Disney Infinity playsets, including Pirates of the Caribbean and Guardians of the Galaxy.

The firm has hired Jon Gibson to head up the new studio. Gibson previously worked at Exient Malta, where he led the development of Angry Birds Go. He has also worked with Gobo CEO Tony Beckwith at Probe, Climax Racing and Black Rock.

“We've got the core team in place, about seven people right now,” he told GamesIndustry. “We're going to be ramping up in a quite aggressive way in the next few months. Ultimately we want be a three project studio. 

“The exact number is difficult at this point because we don't know which clients that we're going to be working with and I think the projects themselves are going to dictate the size of the teams. Within two years, we want to be a three project studio."
