Finnish mobile studio Supercell is now raking in $1 million a day thanks to its flagship titles Clash of Clans and Hay Day.
The 70-person strong developer, which focuses on tablet games, shot to fame a in October when it revealed it was generating $500,000 a day from its free-to-play titles.
This means that in just three months, Supercell has doubled its revenues from just two games.
The studio has continued to go from strength-to-strength, and according to App Annie, its two games made more revenue during November than any other iOS developer, including EA with their 969 games.
Speaking to Pandodaily, Supercell CEO Ilkka Paananen said that while the developer paid attention to how to successfully monetise its titles, the studio focused on fun first to ensure players would stay around in the long term.
"Probably a big misconception about us, really, is that our primary focus would somehow be monetisation of the games. Nothing could be further away from truth," he said.
“Of course we pay attention also to monetisation, but unless you have a game that is inherently fun to play, then you won’t have a game that’s engaging and you won’t have these players playing for months and months and months, or even years. And if you don’t have that, then it doesn’t really matter what the monetisation per user is.”
Supercell was formed in 2010, raising funding from a number of investors including Venture Capital firm Accel, which ploughed $12m into the studio.
The developer had previously released two other titles before last summer, but both titles failed to gain traction, while Supercell also cancelled the development of another title before shifting its focus to tablet gaming and creating Clash of Clans and Hay Day.
