If making a game wasn’t already hard enough, a new Finnish game jam has upped the difficulty level one notch higher.
Survival Mode sees 20 established devs attempt to make a game in less than 48 hours. So far, so game jam.
However, there’s a twist: the developers will be stuck in a cabin in the middle of the freezing landscape of Lapland. There will be no running water, no consistent internet connection and no guarantee of even having electricity (pens and paper at the ready).
All that the competitors will have as a respite against the cold will be a heated sauna, as well as the Finnish remedies of ‘sisu’ and ‘avanto’ – the latter simply being a hole in the ice.
Developers confirmed for the chilly challenge so far include staff from Finnish games firms Seriously, Kuuasema, Frogmind Games, Mindfield Games, Moido Games and V2.fi.
Survival Mode takes place from January 29th to 31st as part of the Global Game Jam, which features a further 21 events in Finland alone.
