The Farm 51 is using texture streaming tech Granite SDK to power the graphics of its upcoming sci-fi title Get Even.

The developer is using 3D scans of real-world objects and places to form the game world, and plans to use Granite to render the large number of detailed and high resolution textures while also creating a smooth player experience.

The middleware, developed by Graphine, is designed to minimise memory usage, storage size and loading times while enabling the use of large amounts of texture data. The tech is available for use with UE4 and Unity.

“Photogrammetry, and 3D scanning in general, allows game developers to create high quality game assets that have the uniqueness and level of detail only found in the real world,” said Graphine Aljosha Demeulemeester.

“Looking at Get Even, you immediately notice that small teams can do amazing things with this kind of technology. I believe that 3D scanning techniques will play a big part in future game asset creation pipelines. Our Granite SDK is aimed at solving the technical problems you encounter when using these large amounts of texture data in a real-time 3D application. It’s a perfect match.”

Graphine’s Granite SDK was recently named as one of the top 100 tech in games in our Develop 100 Tech List, as voted for by industry CTOs, developers and tech experts. You can view it through your browser or on iPad for free.
