AwesomenessTV, a children- and teen-centric media firm owned by DreamWorks Animation, has announced The Kids’ Game Awards.

A spin-off of the Game Awards show launched by Geoff Keighley in 2014 following the death of the decade-old Spike Video Game Awards, the Kids’ Game Awards will – as the name suggests – concentrate on titles designed for younger audiences.

Keighley is co-producing the show in collaboration with AwesomenessTV, with Activision, Nintendo and Warner Bros among those on the advisory board.

According to Variety, the event will feature celebrity appearances, ranging from musical guests to well-known gamers and “digital influencers”.

Viewers will be able to vote on their favourite games, in a fashion mimicking that of the popular Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards.

Last year’s The Game Awards attracted 2.3 million viewers, up from 1.9 million in 2014.

The roughly two-hour show was held in early December, with CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher III: Wild Hunt picking up the prize for Game of the Year.
