Develop Award-nominated studio Fireproof enjoys success with debut title

The Room sells two million copies

Fireproof Studios’ puzzle game The Room has surpassed two million in sales.

As reported by Joystiq, the latest milestone comes after the developer announced in January that the title had surpassed one million sales on iOS and Android.

The Room has proven to be a hit since its release last year, and UK developer Fireproof was recently nominated for five Develop Awards, more than any other studio.

The developer and The Room were nominated for New IP, Visual Arts, Audio Accomplishment, Use of Narrative and Micro Studio.

The title has also previously been recognised by Apple as game of the year on the App Store for 2012.

"We did not want to do a better version of someone else’s game, or an update of a genre," said Fireproof Studios commercial director Barry Meade.

"We thought we’re not doing our jobs properly if we don’t add to what’s out there. As a game creator that’s your responsibility. If you’re not doing that, if you’re chasing what other people are doing, you don’t deserve success because you’re not showing respect to the audience."
