The Infernal Engine is a complete solution for developers, offering native physics, AI, pathfinding, sound, material shader generation, Flash UI and networking, claims its maker Terminal Reality.
Infernal was made with cross-platform development in mind, starting with its WYSIWYG editor, which allows users to develop on their PC with emulation for supported platforms and fluid testing. Terminal Reality says this makes for quick turnaround and rapid prototyping during production.
“We’re seeing a rising demand for lower costs, easy-to-use tech with multiple platform support,” says Terminal Reality president and CTO Mark Randel.
“As a mid-tier independent developer, reacting to major changes within the industry landscape has been challenging. In response, we’re becoming far more agile and responsive, both to external changes and within our internal project development strategies and pipelines.”
Terminal Reality has updated the engine’s client-server networking, asynchronous multiplayer and iOS push notification support. Super-high-resolution radiosity lightmapping for consoles with 4GB-plus RAM and cinematic-quality anti-aliasing have also been added.
These additions are part of Terminal’s push to keep its engine current, and Randel thinks it is ready to tackle the current shifts in technology.
“We’re at the cusp of a new console generation, and so you see game engines poised to take advantage of another exponential increase in hardware performance and capabilities. The mobile space is rapidly evolving, adding focus to greater connectivity and social aspects of technology across all platforms.
“We feel that the breadth of our experience across PC, consoles and mobile devices will allow us to continue to expand our support in new technologies.”
