Publishing source squashes rumours

THQ’s Pixar game Brave ‘not cancelled’

THQ is still funding development of an undisclosed project based on the upcoming Pixar movie Brave, a senior source within Disney has told Develop.

The movie tie-in project, due for a summer release, had become the subject of unconfirmed rumours emerging over the weekend. Analyst Kevin Dent claimed on Twitter that THQ had abandoned a deal with an unnamed Disney brand, having already paid an advance on the IP.

Yet a senior source within Disney told Develop there was "no reason" to believe the unannounced Brave project has been shelved.

THQ has yet to reveal the existence of the Brave project. The Pixar movie itself will be a fantasy adventure and Disney’s latest film to be viewed in stereoscopic 3D.

"This was THQ’s last title in their original agreement with Pixar, signed before the acquisition with Disney," the insider claimed.

THQ has published several games based on Pixar movies including Wall-E, Cars and The Incredibles. On many occasions the publisher has signed with an external games studio to build the Disney games.

On Sunday, THQ had become engulfed by claims that the company had cancelled its entire 2014 line-up.

That specific rumour, which had also emerged from Dent, was flatly denied Monday morning.
