Driving title to be second title from studio formed by former Criterion founders following Dangerous Golf

Three Fields has begun development on a racing game

Three Fields Entertainment has started work on a brand new driving game, co-founder Alex Ward has revealed.

The studio has a legacy in the genre, with Ward and fellow co-founder Fiona Sperry having previously helped to start Burnout developer Criterion Games.

Ward previously suggested that the developer’s debut title, Dangerous Golf, would be used to help bankroll a new racing game, describing the prospective project as “very fast” and hinting at the return of voice actor Ted Stryker, the DJ from Burnout 3: Takedown.

The project has previously been referred to as ‘Shiny Red Something’ in homage to the original codename for Burnout, Shiny Red Car.

Whether the studio’s ambitions changed in the light of Dangerous Golf failing to hit sales expectations – with Ward saying it cannot afford to fund further support for the title – is unclear.

Criterion itself recently cancelled its untitled extreme sports game, previously described as the studio’s ‘biggest game yet’, after more than two years of work in order to focus work on projects sets in the Star Wars universe.
