Finance options open to UK studios detailed in new report

TIGA publishes game developer funding guide

TIGA and Google have released a free and in-depth guide to sources of funding available to UK game developers.

The report, called Sources of Funding: The Sinews of Business, offers advice on a number of funding options, with guidance on how each works, the broad funding criteria used and a list of key examples. The report also assesses the accessibility of such funding.

The sources of funding include:

  • Angel investors;
  • Investment funds;
  • Corporate venture capital;
  • Business accelerators;
  • Financial institutions;
  • Crowdfunding;
  • Trade partner commissions and advances;
  • Project finance schemes;
  • Government-backed business funding; and
  • Tax rebate schemes.

The report also includes a number of interviews from developers on how they have raised funding for their games, and a survey identifying the most popular sources of funding.

"The report itself underlines just how crucial third party funding is for UK games businesses, so we are very pleased to be able to offer such an in-depth and comprehensive guide to the sources of funding available in the UK,” said TIGA CEO Richard Wilson.

“As this report is free for the whole industry, I would encourage people to share this content as much as possible. Together we can strengthen the game development and digital publishing sector.”
